With the cold weather upon us, the Ontario SPCA is appealing to the equestrian community for donations of gently used blankets to help keep horses warm this winter as they wait to be adopted.

The Ontario SPCA is seeking all sizes of winter turnout blankets, blanket liners, insulated and uninsulated rain sheets, fly sheets and fly masks. Field-safe halters of all sizes, especially Cob sizes, as well as lead ropes, are also needed. Urgently needed are turnout blankets and rain sheets of the following sizes:

• 60” medium to heavy weight turnout
• 74” full neck heavy weight turnout
• 78” full neck heavy weight turnout
• Medium and heavy weight blanket liners in sizes 60, 74 and 78

Clean, gently used blanket donations can be dropped off at the Ontario SPCA’s Provincial Office in Stouffville, or at any Ontario SPCA animal centre location.

Gift cards for Greenhawk Harness & Equestrian Supplies are also appreciated to purchase supplies. Gift cards can be mailed to:

“If you have blankets in your tack room that aren’t being used, please consider donating them to help keep the horses in our care warm and comfortable this winter,” says Alison Green, Senior Inspector, Ontario SPCA. “We appreciate the horse community’s support as we work to find new homes for our equine friends.”
