Two days of intense show jumping competition at the Atlantic Canada Equestrian Championships in Sussex, NB, saw Team New Brunswick garnering two team medals – a Gold in the 1.1m section and a Silver in the 1.0m section. Jennika Charette won the Individual Gold medal in the 1.1m section and Grace Jennings captured the Individual Gold medal in the 1.0 section. Both Charette and Jennings are Junior Riders.

The show was hosted by the New Brunswick Equestrian Association in conjunction with its year end Bronze Hunter/Jumper Championship show. The competition took place at the Princess Louise Park Show Centre in Sussex on October 7 and 8, 2017.

“We had a phenomenal turnout for this event,” said Deanna Phelan, President of the NBEA. “It was wonderful to see teams in both sections from NB, NS and PEI. That made for true inter-provincial competition. At the end of the day, all three provincial teams went home with medals.”

Team NB took the Gold medal in the 1.1m Section with Team NS capturing Silver. In the 1.0m Section, Team PEI garnered the gold with Team NB getting the Silver.

“We were lucky on Saturday,” Phelan said. “The weather was phenomenal – warm and sunny all day. On Sunday, Mother Nature provided some serious challenges for our riders and their horses. As the day wore on, the wind picked up and then the rain arrived, at times falling sideways thanks to the wind. But despite waving flags, wind, rain and the occasional falling jump decor, everyone did amazingly well.

“I am very proud to have been part of the organizing committee that, for the ACE Championships included Patricia Uptegrove, Chairperson, Prince Edward Island Horse Council and Gidget Oxner, Technical Director, Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation. It was a lot of work but it couldn’t have been accomplished without the support of many volunteers in all three provinces. We congratulate all of the Teams, their Coaches and Supporters on a job well done!”
