Jump Canada announces the Canadian Show Jumping Team members for the upcoming €2,000,000 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Final to be held from October 9-12, 2014 at CSIO5* Barcelona in Barcelona, ESP.

The following riders and horses will travel to Barcelona to compete in the series Final for Canada:

Ben Asselin of Calgary, AB will ride Makavoy (Hors la Loi II x Ahorn) an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Attache Stables or Doremi (Quidam de Revel x Cento), Linda Southern-Heathcott’s 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding.

Yann Candele of Caledon, ON will ride Showgirl (Gold de Becourt x Elf III) a 14-year-old Selle Français mare owned by the Watermark Group.

Tiffany Foster of Vancouver, BC will ride Melody des Hayettes Z (Mozart des Hayettes x Ryon d’Anzex X) a 10-year-old Zangersheide mare owned by Artisan Farms LLC or Tripple X III (Namelus R x Contango) a 12-year-old Anglo European stallion owned by Artisan Farms LLC.

Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, will ride Zigali P S (Kigali x STB-H Palfrenier) an 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Artisan Farms LLC or Fine Lady 5 (Forsyth x Drosselklang II) 11-year-old Hanoverian mare owned by Artisan Farms LLC.

Leading the Barcelona Team will be team manager, Karen Hendry-Ouellette, and chef d’équipe, Mark Laskin.

Nineteen countries have qualified to compete at the 2014 series Final. For the purposes of qualifying teams, the world has been divided into six regions-Europe Divisions 1 and 2, North and Central America/Caribbean, South America, Middle East, Asia/Australasia and Africa. Canada earned its berth to the prestigious Final by finishing in first place in the North and Central American/Caribbean region, winning two out of the three qualifying competitions.

A Nations Cup is the only competition in show jumping where riders, competing in teams of four, compete against other countries for top honours. The top three scores from each team are counted towards the final result of the two-round competition.
