The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and The Jockey Club of Canada are hosting an Ownership Seminar on Saturday, July 1 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.

The seminar will provide a basic introduction to Thoroughbred ownership, with topics including how to build a racing stable, owner and trainer communications, common veterinary concerns, accounting and insurance issues, understanding racing partnerships and much more.

It will be divided into two parts, with the morning session beginning at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast will be served as attendees listen to presentations and participate in discussions with experts from across the industry. Guest speakers include:

  • Glenn Sikura, owner/breeder of Hill n’ Dale Farms
  • Jeff Begg, Chief Steward of The Jockey Club of Canada
  • Roger Attfield, Hall of Fame Trainer and Owner
  • Dr. Pug and Susie Hart, highly respected veterinarian as well as owners and breeders
  • Vikki Pappas from LongRun
  • Jim Lawson, Chief Executive Officer of Woodbine Entertainment Group

Following this session, attendees will enjoy an afternoon of lunch and a day at the races.

The cost is $90 (USD) for members and $140 (USD) for non-members. All materials, race day tickets and meals (breakfast and lunch) are included. To register, visit www.toba.org.

This will be a great opportunity for newcomers to experience what life is like as a Thoroughbred horse owner and for current industry professionals to help grow the sport of horse racing, providing people with the tools and resources to do so successfully.
