As the Mercedes-Benz Nations’ Cup at the CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival in Germany is set to take place Thursday, July 20th, one team noticeably absent is Canada. Jessie Christie, manager of Communications and Media Relations at Equestrian Canada, explained, “The team felt that some of the horses weren’t quite at peak form yet, so given how prestigious the Aachen Nations’ Cup is, they decided to pass on the invitation to participate in the Nations’ Cup this year. However, we are very pleased that Eric Lamaze received an invite and was already pre-qualified for the Grand Prix of Aachen.”

Lamaze will be taking Chacco Kid, Coco Bongo, Fine Lady 5, and a young horse, Jewel 8, to compete in a number of events during the six days when top show jumpers take centre stage, culminating with the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday, July 23rd, part of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping.

The enormous festival, which runs from July 14-23 and annually attracts around 350,000 visitors, encompasses world-class jumping, driving, vaulting, eventing and dressage.

Christie added, “This year marks the first time two Maritimers will represent Canada as individuals in dressage ‒ Jill Irving [Degas 12] and Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu [All In].” Competition starts on Wed., July 19th and concludes with the Dressage Grand Prix of Aachen Grand Prix Freestyle on Sunday, July 23rd.
