Toronto, ON – The 26th Breeders’ Cup World Championships horses featured entrants with Canadian content and horses that had showcased their talent in front of Canadian racing fans. The following is a list of Breeders’ Cup horses that have competed at Woodbine in their careers and how they performed Friday and Saturday.

FRIDAY

Marathon (1)

Cloudy’s Knight, who won the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International in 2007, was second by a nose in the second edition of the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon.

Juvenile Fillies Turf (2)

Jungle Tale, who finished second in the Grade 3 Natalma on September 19, 2009, was fifth in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, 5 1/4 lengths behind Tapitsfly.

Irish-bred Elusive Galaxy, who contested her first North American race at Woodbine in the Natalma, was 11th in the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Juvenile Fillies (2)

Reade Baker trainee Biofuel, who was a 4 1/2-length winner of the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes, closed in the stretch and was forced to check sharply inside the eighth pole. She stayed on to be fourth, just 1 1/2 lengths behind She Be Wild.

Negligee, who was a fast-closing second in the Ontario Debutante on August 15, was sixth in the Juvenile Fillies, about 1 1/2 lengths from the top prize.

Filly and Mare Turf (2)

Rutherienne, who won the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes by three lengths on May 30, 2009, was seventh in the Filly and Mare Turf, defeated four lengths by Midday.

Forever Together, who was second to Princess Haya in the Grade 1 Canadian Stakes on September 20, 2009, was third, 2 1/4 lengths in arrears.

Filly and Mare Sprint (1)

Ventura, who captured the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile on September 20, 2009, was second at odds of 4-5 in the Filly and Mare Sprint, defeated 1 1/4 lengths by Informed Decision.

Ladies Classic (3)

Donver Stable’s Careless Jewel, who recorded her first two career victories at Woodbine, finished eighth in the Ladies Classic, over 18 lengths behind Life Is Sweet.

Mushka, who finished third in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes on July 11, 2009, at Woodbine, was second in the Ladies Classic, about 2 1/2 lengths behind Life Is Sweet.

Rainbow View, who stayed on to be second in the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes on October 17, 2009, was fifth in the Ladies Classic, 6 3/4 lengths in arrears.


SATURDAY

Juvenile Turf (2)

Bridgetown, who was a ridden out winner of the Grade 3 Summer Stakes on September 18, 2009, led until deep stretch and held on to be second in the Juvenile Turf, three-quarters of a length behind Pounced.

Becky’s Kitten, who was second in the one-mile Summer, was ninth in the Juvenile Turf, finishing 5 1/2 lengths behind Pounced.

Turf Sprint (2)

Canadian Ballet, who was second in the Grade 3 Royal North Stakes on August 1, 2009, was fifth, about four lengths behind California Flag.

Silver Timber, who finished eighth in the 2006 Nearctic Stakes, was sixth in the Turf Sprint, also about four lengths behind California Flag.

Sprint (1)

Bear Stables’ Fatal Bullet, who scored by 2 1/4 lengths in the Bold Venture on July 19, 2009, finished sixth, about 2 1/2 lengths behind Dancing in Silks.

Juvenile (1)

William’s Kitten, who was fifth in the Grade 3 Grey Stakes on October 11, 2009, was eighth in the Juvenile, about 4 1/2 lengths behind Vale of York.

Mile (1)

Ferneley, who rallied to be second in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile on September 20, 2009, finished seventh in the Mile, about 7 1/2 lengths behind Goldikova.

Dirt Mile (1)

Ready’s Echo, who was second in the Grade 3 Seagram Cup Stakes on August 3, 2009, was second in the Dirt Mile, three-quarters of a length behind Furthest Land.

Turf (0)

Classic (1)

Mine That Bird, who began his career at Woodbine and tallied three consecutive stakes (Silver Deputy, Swynford, Grey) in 2008, finished ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
