JACQUES CARTIER – 62nd running of stake named for….
JACQUES CARTIER of course! If you live in this country, surely you know Monsieur Cartier (born 1491), the French explorer who essentially discovered the St. Lawrence waterway entrance and mapped it. He was the first to designate an area, along the shores of the St. Lawrence river “Canada”.
So, let’s explore the Jacques Cartier Stakes, first run in 1954 and won that year by Blue Scooter. It has always been a pretty cool sprint race, often the first stales race of the season at Woodbine but this year, further in the spring.

Thanks to Gabriele Di Paolo, fans can see results of handicapper picks following every racing card for Woodbine and Mohawk racing on his Twitter feed @noahurstats .
Gabriele does them individually by handicapper and then compiles a chart for everyone for each card. On his Twitter feed he has an explanation of his chart that I have tried to reproduce below the results chart from Saturday’s Woodbine TB races.
As you will see – Gabriele denotes ROI (Return on Investment) for a handicapper’ 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th picks (if they have a 4th pick).. HITS, means how many winners on the day and Winnings is the $1 payoffs on winners. The more red, yellow and green – the better!
His individual stats also include Year to Date, Exotic ticket payoffs and he even does Jockeys too!
