98 BEYER SPEED FIGURE FOR PUNTROOSKIE at WOODBINE

Touchdown for latest Tucci claim in Woodstock Stakes
FROM CLEMSONWIKI: “Puntrooskie” is the name given to the play that FSU ran against Clemson during their match in 1988. With 1:30 left in the fourth quarter and the game tied, Florida State faced a fourth-and-four at its 21. The Seminoles lined up in punt formation. The ball was snapped to the upback Dayne Williams. LeRoy Butler then was slipped the ball between his legs from behind and ran 78 yards to set up the winning field goal. FSU went on to win the game 24-21.

Just as if he had raced on Polytrack all his life, Florida import PUNTROOSKIE crushed the field in the WOODSTOCK STAKES on Sunday at Woodbine, posting a 98 Beyer Figure for the time of 1:09.34 for 6 furlongs. The gelding’s sire IN SUMMATION, loved all weather surfaces so it was not a surprise that this Tucci Stables 3yo took to the Woodbine track. He was a $50,000 claiming on Feb. 8 from a maiden race in which he encountered trouble. He was 5th on the grass but then won a Florida-bred maiden allowance on Mar 14 with an 82 Beyer. Ridden by Jesse Campbell, the gelding is trained by Nick Gonzalez. JOSE SEA VIEW was second and champion 2yo of 2013, GO GREELEY was third.

SUNDAY at WOODBINE

It took the barn a few days but ROBERT TILLER’S team had booming business on Sunday with 3 winners, making that 4 on the weekend. A perennial leading trainer, Tiller won 3 races on opening day in 2013 but had some bad luck with horses on opening weekend.

Yesterday’s winners were:

THE IMPOSTER – 3yo grey gelding by Wilko out of Our Girl Hennessy by Concorde’s Tune, owned by Tiller and bred by Andrew Stronach. The Ontario bred is unbeaten in 2 races and and he an allowance/optional claimer on Sunday with a 70 Beyer Figure/ Patrick Husbands rode.

BE MIND PHIL – Frank DiGiulio’s homebred 4yo filly by Philanthropist led all the way and won an allowance race for Ontario sired gals. She was ridden by Eurico Da Silva and it was her 2nd win in 11 races. That outing was her season opener.

CRISTALINO – a Kentucky bred owned by Rolph Davis and Tiller, she won off the winter layoff in a 5 1/2 furlong maiden race for $40,000 under Luis Contreras. She had blinkers off.

More stuff:

KOSCHECK came in from Tampa Bay Down s to win a maiden allowance for Ontario sired runners. The 4yo by Mr Scotty led all the way under David Garcia. Norm McKnight trains.

Race 3- a  five-horse field, won by SKY CAPTAIN, a John Oxley/Mark Casse fellow who had recently been scratched from a race at Keeneland on April and got lucky that this race filled. He had not raced in more than a year but dueled wide and won under Patrick Husbands. His winning Beyer was the only other race on the Woodbine card that was higher than 70 – he posted an 81.

Race 5- Many stakes winners in this field at 5 1/2 furlongs, an allowance/optional claiming event, and one of them won – AUNT ELS, up in the last jump under Jesse Campbell to win her first start since last May. Nick Gonzalez trains this RMC homebred by Consolidator out of Frivolous Flo by Flame Thrower. Aunt Els was a takes winner at 2 for Norm McKnight but she was outrun in 2 races last year at 3.

Race 7 – There were only 2 horses in this race that you could consider for the win and everyone latched onto SNOWY LEGACY, who should have won his debut in 2013. This flashy son of stakes winner London Snow ran well again but he could not catch up to speedy ROBS GIANT GIZMO, who also ran well in his debut last June. Owned and trained my Michell Love, this gelding is by Giant Gizmo out of Queen of Queens by King of Kings (Ire) and he cost $8,000 as a yearling. Jim McAleney grabbed his first win of the season.

Race 9 – ALPHA HIGH rallied wide and was up to win his maiden in his 2nd career race and first since a Gulfstream debut when he was 5th to a good one. This son of Alphabet Soup is out of Highland Mood and is a hal fbrother to champion Maritimer. Sid Attard trains and Luis Contreras rode.

CANADIANS IN OCALA – SHOPPING!

A whopping total of 1,209 juveniles are up for auction beginning today in Ocala for the April 2yo sale, one of the most popular and successful juvenile sales. This is the same sale that gave up I’LL HAVE ANOTHER, a Kentucky Derby winner. This year’s Derby starter DANCE WITH FATE came out of this sale last year. And HORSE OF THE YEAR FATAL BULLET was an April sale 2yo.
Therefore it is no surprise that Canadians have flocked to Ocala today for the 4-day sale, searching for that next star. The local circuit could use some more horses also, so hopefully there will be truckfuls of youngsters on their way here shortly.
There are many Ontario-breds in the acution as well. Below is their hip no., workout time, breeding and consignor:
