SHE DID IT HER WAY – Brooklyn’sway won the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes to continue a remarkable run for owner/trainer John Ross. This Giant Gizmo filly was a $10,000 purchase and, like her former stablemate LEXIE LOU, was named for one of Ross’ grandchildren. Lexie Lou, a $5,500 purchase who won a pile of money for Ross and then was sold to Gary Barber, is likely to be named Horse of the Year in Cnada in 2014. But Ross does not have to worry because now Brooklyn’sway is his next gem. She was bred by HJT Stable and ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson. Her Beyer Figure was 75, the best of her career.

Last Friday’s 2 top Beyer Figure efforts were the 87 Beyer posted by FLASHLIGHT (IRE) who streaked to a big win in this $32,000 claiming race at 7 furlongs on the grass. The winner is a Shamardal colt for Raroma Stable, trained by Brian Lynch.
Later, also on the grass, STAR CONTENDER got his first win since 2012 when he won a turf allowance under Omar Moreno with an 83 Beyer Figure. He is a 4yo colt by Henny Hughes who won the Cup and Saucer as a 2yo but he has been raced sparingly in the last coupel of seasons by Mark Casse and John Oxley.

SATURDAY – Trainer MARKO MESIC had his first winner of the season when the first time strating 2yo filly PRINCESS GUERRERA won this $50,000 maiden 2yo race by 5 lengths with a 52 Beyer Figure. She was 20 to 1 and is by the young Giant’s Causeway mare

Jockey Steve Bahen won the Daily Double as he guided SMART SPREE to a maiden win at the allowance class for Augustin Stable and trainer Mark Frostad.

JUICEYCREST won her debut in race 6 on Saturday at 51 to 1 for owner Langcrest Farm and trainer JOhn Charalambous. This Trajectory filly is out of Juicey, a Notebook mare who has had 8 winning foals including Miss Juicey, the dam of this year’s fleet 2yo stakes winner Pohdi Pohdi.
Juiceycrest had post 12 at 5 furlongs and rallied from about 6 lengths off the pace to win by a neck under David Moran.
Langcrest Farm is the famous farm started by Jim Langill who raced Langcrest, a top stakes horse in Canada in 1964 and 1965. Juiceycrest carries the same silks Langcrest carried.

MILLIONINTHEMAKING ran an 86 Beyer Figure winning this allowance race/optional claiming event for Wolsley Finch. The son of Saffir had been in drab form from April 2013 until September of this year when he was stretched out in distance. He won for $12,500 and has been on a roll since. Abraham Katryan trains and Nick Webb rode. The 1 1/16 miles wentin 1:43.83.

Wagering on Saturday at Woodbine, Breeders’ Cup day 2, was $4.7 million which was down from $5.03 million on the same day last year.

SUNDAY – First time starter SWEET CORINNA began the day as a winner at 12 to 1 for Gabe Grossberg and trainer Mark Casse.  Yep, the leading trainer can have a 12 to 1 2yo winner at first asking. This one by Corinthian and is a homebred. Jesse Campbell rode while Patrick Husbands rode the more fancied Casse filly Tancook, who was 4th.

LOOKINGFORANEWHOME is not doing that just yet. The Buttigieg team likes this youngster by Dance to Destiny out of Moonlite Walk who is a homebred. It was his 2nd race and he won by more than 3 lengths over MSW company.

CORDOVA won his debut in race 6 at 12 to 1 for Hall of Fame trainer ROGER ATTFIELD and owner Bill Werner. This Congrats – Lyrically 2yo was bred by Kinghaven Farms and he came from far back to win this $25,000 maiden claiming event at 1 1/16 miles.
