THOROUGHBLOG’s QUEEN’S PLATE NEWS

Correction to the field listed in yesterday’s post as NARROW ESCAPE, a half brother to last year’s Prince of Wales winner COLTIMUS PRIME, won an allowance race in his last start, not a maiden race (that came last year!)

SHAKHIMAT had his major Plate workout on Tuesday, a 6 furlong drill with the mare Hantaloop, and he spotted that rival a couple of lengths and went on to work the distance in 1:12.80, out in 1:25 for 7 furlongs.

By now you know that SHAKHIMAT is Roger Attfield’s chance at a 9th, and record Queen’s Plate. The colt, who is so handsome and by a very serious stallion on Lonhro, was the winterbook favourite who is a graded stakes winner this year but coming in off 2 losses.

AMIS GIZMO could rule as the slight Plate favourite off a strong Plate Trial win and should the fillies Gamble’s Ghost or Neshama compete, they too could garner attention. LEAVEM IN MALIBU could be in the fight for 2nd choice as well.

American based colts expected to head this way are ESPOSITO and SCHOLAR ATHLETE as well as SIR DUDLEY DIGGES.

ALL ON RED is American  owned by the same folks who had Interpol last year, the champion turf male. Thoroughblog has an interview with Michael Narlinger coming up this week about All On Red.
