ONE DESTINY SIZZLES IN FINAL PLATE PREP

Alec Fehr and Winston Penny’s ONE DESTINY worked a bullet 5 furlongs in 59 yesterday at Woodbine matching the time of his older brother, multiple SW Ultimate Destiny, and is getting a chance to run for glory on Sunday.

The son of Dance to Destiny, who no longer stands in Ontario,  is out of One On Tap by Pleasant Tap and was bred by Minshall Farms. He is a one-time winner who had some trouble in his last race, a 9 furlong allowance event where Athenian Guard veered in and lost his rider.

Also working fast was AMI’S HOLIDAY, the Ivan Dalos homebred who had some trouble when 3rd in the Marine Stakes. HEART TO HEART, owned by Terry Hamilton, worked 6 furlongs in a very slow 1:18.

Mark Casse has decided not to race Stoneway Farms’ EAST SIDE in the field and he will start just 3. Majestic Sunset and Matador had god workout times on Saturday.

FREITAG is not one of the 16 listed for the Plate but there is a chance that owner Earle Mack will still enter the giant gelding in the 1 1/4 mile classic, bringing the field number to 17.

NOTHING QUIET ABOUT SILENT TREAT

Stablemates’ SILENT TREAT upset the applecart in the Zadracarta overnight stakes on Sunday at Woodbine. The Silent Name (Jpn) – Crumpet, by Bold ‘n Flashy filly had won the Ballade Stakes in her season debut at 12 to 1, bombed in her latest, an allowance race when favoured, and then, with 1st time Lasix, led all the way and won this 7 furlong stakes race on the grass with 1st time Lasix. She was 8 to 1 under Michelle Rainford. Scott Fairlie trains.
Silent Treat was making her 3rd start on the grass and her time of 1:21 flat was good for a whopping 91 Beyer Figure. Why Katherine, the favourite, rallied up the rail to be 2nd.
The winner is 6 for 13 in her career with earnings of over $310,000.

MORE SUNDAY

Race 1 – Pedigree players would have been all over AUNT SHERRI (those notes always available in Daily Racing Form’s CLOSER LOOK) as the Stephen Got Even – Tomisue’s Pleasire, seeking the Gold filly is a full sister to 2 juvenile debut winners. It was a little scar for Aunt Sherri in this opener as she broke a bit slowly and then rallied up the rail and inside of rivals to get the win. Debmar Stables owner this $32,000 yearling purchase and Ricky Griffith trains. Patrick Husbands rode. The winner was up in time to edge a very fast one from the Robert Tiller barn, SCINDIA, a filly from the first crop of Cool Coal Man (Mineshaft).

Race 2 NORTH OF NEVER, from the Joan Scott barn, won this $20,000 claiming race under Luis Conterras (4 winners on the card) i his 2nd local outing. The North Light (Ire) 5-year-old had been 0 for 2 on Polytrack and 3 for 16 on grass before thisrace.

Race 3- A nice maiden allowance race for 2-year-olds and the money poured in on SKY RACER, an ONtario bred Sky Mesa colt out of Dancehall Floozy by Paramount Jet. Bred by Bob Harvey, the bay colt is owned by John Oxley and he had finished 3rd in his debut at Keeneland, behind Hootenanny, the good colt from Wesley ward’s barn. Sky Racer crushed this field under Contreras (Husbands was on the other Casse colt, Conquest Boogaloo) and ran a 72 Beyer Figure for  furlongs in 58.28.
The task was made easier for this half brother to Doro DDiablo, Bickersons, etc. as the well regarded beginner CALGACUS (Bluegrass Cat)  broke well but then appeared to try and get out badly for the rest of the race and he was eventually pulled up and vanned off. Another beginner, Pulpego, lost touch with the field and Easy Indygo was shuffled back on the turn before closing fast.

Race 4 – Head scratching time – CIBOULETTE, a 5-year-old mare by Bold Executive, had been well beaten in 2 races this season with a 39 and 49 Beyer Figure, won this allowance/optional claiming race with a 4th rider change in succession. The Carol Walls, Shelter Valley gal, trained by Joe Walls, was ridden by Sheena Ryan and came from last place in the 6 1/2 furlong race. The 2 to 5 favourite Sweater Weather had rallied 4 wide on the turn ahead of Ciboulette but flattened out badly, likely bouncing off the nrear miss in the Lady Angela Stakes 3 weeks ago. Ciboulette was 35 to 1 in what can only be described in a very odd reversal of form.

Race 5 – Favoured BEAR’S BIG BOY battled on the pace from the rail with FRENCH QUARTER and could not stay. The latter won the $40,000 claiming race for Norseman Racing Stable and trainer John Mattine, who is having a remarkable season 28 per cent wins).

Race 6 – SOMBRERO DE COPA rallied down the middle of the grass course to win for the 2nd straight time for Sontrach Stables and trainer Mark Frostad. The El Prado gelding was easy to like when he won his maiden on May 30 with a 74 Beyer on Polytrack. He was well ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson to win this allowance race at 9 furlongs with a big 84 Beyer Figure, a new top for the gelding.

Race 7 – Wild finish to this maiden allowance race at 1 1.16 miles for fillies and mares. GREEN BAY had a stalking trip  and surged to the lead in the stretch but drifted out while she was trying to hang on.  A charging NATURALLY SMOOTH was closing from far back and longshot PASSAGE WEST was trying to make her bid between rivals. The whip of Emma-Jayne Wilson inadvertently hit Passage West square on the nose right when Green Bay was drifting out but only Naturally Smooth was disqualified. The inquiry sign only went up after several minutes of the race being completed and the claim of foul was only made by the stewards.
GRREN BAY is a Sligo Bay filly out of Advanced Green by Malibu Moon, owned by Frank DiGiulio Jr, and perartners and trained by Robert Tiller.

Race 9 – another favourite crumbled as LUCKY LOTTO, coming off a Sept. – June layoff faded to 4th while the super stallion LORD OF GREATNESS, up to $50,000 claiming, won for the third time this season. This Greatness 8-year-old entire horse was ridden by Matt Moore, who won on him last time at 19 to 1. It was the 50th career race for Lord of Greatness and his 15 career win. Robert Tiller picked up his 2nd win of the day.

Race 10 – Lucky Fish Stable’s O WANDERLUST and Chantal Sutherland Kruse won for the first time on turf in his 8th attempt. The Mizzen Mast gelding, claimed for $10,000 in November was the 2nd winner on the day for trainer John Mattine.

NOTHING IN THE WAY OF UNHINDERED

The grey 2yo filly UNHINDERED is 2 for 2 in her career after leading all the way and winning the My Dear Stakes at 5 furlongs on Saturday. Owned by Magers and Marcocchio and trained by Ralph Biamonte, the daughter of Stormy Atlantic – Sahara Song by Unbridled’s Song was coming back in 2 weeks off the maiden win by that did not slow her down. She earned a 69 Beyer Figure.

The winner is owned by Tucci Stables which bought this gal in April at the Ocala sale for $40,000. She had worked one furlong in 10 2/5. Nick Gonzalez trains.

Race 2- SWEET STARLET won for the second time in 3 races as she took this $20,000 claiming race, a big drop from $37,500. Gerry Olguin rode this 7-year-old mare for Jim Ensom. It was her 9th win in 39 races.

Race 3- More Gerry Olguin as he got HAWK’S WELL up in time to win this allowance/optional claiming race. The winner was making his 2nd start of the year for Wayward Stable and trainer Ian Howard. He is a Sligo Bay (Ire) 4yo bred by Gill Howard, Don Ross and Nancy Howard.

Race 4 – a maiden allowance on the grass and the race featured the debut of the most expensive yearling sold in Canada two years ago,, Johnny Bear. The son of English Channel is owned by Colebrook Farms and Bear Stables and he rallied from far back to be 6th. The winner was 30 to 1 shot LAFONTAINE, a son of Artie Schiller, who was making his 2nd career start on turf. This gelding, owned by Cudney Stables, was a popular pick in his grass debut on Jun 7 but he faded badly. He came from just off the pace under Steve Bahen to win this time for trainer Liz Charalambous, her first winner of the season (and only her 3rd starter).

Race 5 – MAIL ORDER GROOM was up in time to win this $8,000 claiming race for Box Arrow Farm and trainer Gord Colbourne. Emma-Jayne Wilson guided the son of Mr Sekiguchi in his 3rd race off the winter layoff.

Race 6- WISDOM LISTENS reeled in the speedy but bridesmaid-type SPIN WILD and won his maiden for $25,000 for Frank Cirillo and trainer Steven Chircop. The 4yo by Survivalist was probably best in his season debut when h got into a world of trouble and then he was flat  in a longer race last time.

Race 7 – HOLY EMPRESS won for the second time in her career in this 1 1/8 mile grass race as the favourite. She is owned by Stronach Stables and trained by Reade Baker. Emma-Jayne Wilson rode the Ghostzapper filly in her 4th career race.

race 9 – Two wins in a row for INCLUSA, owned by Gail Wood and trained by Phil Gracey. The turf-loving gal was in for $30,00 claiming and she rallied wide for a super score, her 4th in 18 races and 3rd win since Wood took over ownership of the daughter of Include. Davy Moran rode.
Race 10 – 20th time lucky for MATTANGEL who won his maiden for $10,000 claiming under Gerry Olguin. The son of Compadre is owned by Angel Primerano and John Workman and it was the first winner of the season for trainer Roy Jones.
