Coming up Oct. 17

The plane with the Europeans horses for the big races on Oct. 17 is expected to be packed with at least half a dozen guys and gals when transportation plans are finalized today overseas.

The confirmed Euro’s for the CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL are BUCCELLETTI, ASK (2nd beaten a nose in the 2007 International) and the big grey JUKEBOX JURY.

The. E.P,. Taylor could have RAINBOW VIEW, LOOK HERE, CHINESE WHITE, LAHALEEB and perhaps others.

TODAY’S FEATURED HORSE in THOROUGHBLOG is JUKEBOX JURY.

Juke Box Jury was a pop-themed panel show, originally produced by BBC television from 1959-1967.

The equine vesion is a big grey 3yo by MONTJEU.

A 5 time winner in 11 races, the colt won the Group 2 RoyalLodge Stakes at 2 – that’s a big race in England for babies.

This yearm he won th4e Group 2 Grand Prix de Deauville, setting a slow pace and holding on,

Most recently he won by a nose in Germany – getting his Group 1score.

Here are some notes on Jukebox Jury:

(from frogsracing.com)

Sunday, August 30th. A slow race led to a tight finish with British raider Jukebox Jury (Ire-Montjeu) just holding off a fast finishing Pouvoir Absolu (Gb-Sadler’s Wells) in the €200,000 Grand Prix de Deauville Lucien Barriere (Gr2-2,500mT), the August meeting’s last big race. It was a ding dong affair between the two horses and Jukebox Jury was the lucky one there after a few disappointing runs in France, as his trainer Mark Johnston recalled before the race. It was worth trying though, as the 3yos somehow needed to react after two 6yos had taken the honours in the opening Gr3s, writes Le Frog.

“Jukebox Jury was not happy in front and he was ducking out,” said a relieved Johnston. He was happier when the other horse took over in the back straight and he always travelled well after. Yet I thought we’d lost it when I saw the second come wide. It was really close.

Jukebox Jury was bred by French bloodstock agent Paul Nataf and sold at the 2007 Arqana Deauville August sale for €270,000 to Mark Johnston, who also bought his yearling ¾ brother by Hurricane Cat for €100,000 at the 2009 sale

YOU WILL WIN!

Mare ends long winless treak with upset, Smart win

It was a breezy, very cool dark night at Woodbine but the tent area at the track was abuzz with numerous group functions including AMICI, established in 1966 by Kilcoo Camp alumni. Amici is a registered charitable organization that raises funds to send financially challenged boys and girls to summer camps.

Guests lined up at the betting windows and then poured trackside to watch the horses race  – hopefully they will come back for more racing fun!

There was a wide mix of favourites and longshots that won during the night – speed was doing okay, closers did okay and all parts of the track played fair it seemed.

The surprise of the night was the 2 wins at long odds by trainer EARL BARNETT, who somehow got the lethargic ONE WAY RUCKUS to win her maiden off a layoff of almost 2 months. Bred and owned by Barnett, the filly had raced just one this year and was last for $11,500 claiming.

Later Barnett watched as his trainee YOU WILL LOVE ME, zipped up the rail to win the $125,000 Classy’n Smart Stakes over big favourite AUTHENICAT.

Owned by Bill Jones, YOU WILL LOVE ME lost this race by a head last year but had done little in her 5 races this year.

Trainer Robert Barnett said the bay mare has been an enigma this season, having entered the Classy ‘n Smart with just one second-place finish in five starts.

“I have no excuses for that. She was a little heavy in the spring. She got over that. She looked really good and trained exceptionally well,” he said. “She just didn’t seem to want to lay as close as I wanted her. We gave her faster workouts. It looked like it paid off.”

The victory boosted You Will Love Me’s record to 7-for-23 with earnings of $616,508.
