OLREDLGETCHA, previously trained by Robert Tiller and Greg de Gannes, died this week.

THOROUGHBRED TIMES REPORT:

WOODBINE STAKES WINNER Olredlgetcha euthanized

by Jeff Lowe

Olredlgetcha, a Limehouse colt who won the Victoria Stakes in his debut at Woodbine on June 14, was euthanized on Tuesday after developing a staph infection in his right hock from a puncture wound.

The colt out of Mystical Beauty, by Cobra King, scored by three lengths for trainer Greg de Gannes in the five-furlong Victoria. The only first-time starter in the race, Olredlgetcha covered the distance in :57.66 on the synthetic Polytrack surface. (video)

The puncture wound occurred in the race, said Salvatore Simeone of owner R Own Stables. Olredlgetcha was treated at the University of Guelph in Toronto after symptoms set in two days after the Victoria.

“The infection was aggressively treated but rapidly spread to the joint capsule causing the horse great suffering and a total deterioration of the hock,” Simeone said. “It was just a shame to see his career truncated like that. It looked like he had so much promise.

“For two days he was perfect, and then he was real, real tender right up on the hock, up front, and it seemed like we got it under control with antibiotics. By the end of the next day, we sent him right to Guelph.”

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WRAP

– 18 races in the last 2 days and the names that popped up frequently were SID ATTARD, TINO ATTARD and first winners of the season for STANLEY BARESICH.

Thursday – the TERRY JORDAN TRAINED GROUP won with another bin one, MAKANI, drew off after a pace duel to win the 1st race on the drop from $25,000 to $16,000. She’s a New York bred by Runaway Groom.

FIRST TIME STARTERS that win included USHUAIA, a Kentucky bred by Canadian sire CAPE CANAVERAL, who pressed 3 wide and edged clear to win a maiden allowance for Bill Harrigan and Mike Pietrineilo. Roger Attfield trains the filly who had been working fast.

SHE WANTS, a blocky bay by CACTUS RIDGE, had rail speed and won the 5th race for maiden 2yo fillies for $32,000 for Martha and Nick Gonzalez.

PHOR PHILIPPE won his 3rd race in succession for Howard Fishman and Robert Tiller when he won for $16,000 claiming. He is a Where’s the Ring fellow who is 3 for 3 in 2009 now.

ON FRIDAY, JUNGLE WAVE scorched 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass in 1:14, just missing the course record, to win an allowance/optional claiming event. BEAR REINDEER, a grey 4 yo by Alphabet Soup, won his 2nd race in succession with a front running, hard fought score for $12,500 for Brenda Goodlet and trainer Tino Attard in race 4.

Flashy ANNE’S PURSE made a triumphant return to the races after missing 11 months. The stakes winner by Porto Foricos (bring him back from Louisiana!) led most of the way and won the allowance race for Big C Little C Stable and trainer Earl Barnett.

Another nice allowance winner on the card was SLAVENSKA, confirming that DANCE TO DESTINY may be a turf sire in the making, The Colebrook Farms homebred , maing her 3rd start of the season and 5th overall, burst inside of rivals to win the allowance event for her 2nd win of the year. She is the 2nd turf debut winner for the sire in just over one week.

Heads scratchers yesterday included FORT ERIE invader SHESTWEAKIN (Regal Discovery) for the very capable Bert and Lynn Simon barn. The filly had shown little in 5 career races and was 9th in her latest for $10,000 claiming at Fort Erie. She rallied from almost last to win for $16,000 yesterday in her Polytrack debut.

The finale was won by YAROSLAV, who was eased in his previous race at the allowance level, but zomed home for $25,00 claiming yesterday like nothing. He is a regally bred DANZIG horse  owned by Richard Lister and trained by Jim Smith.
