TU ENDIE WEI 7TH ALCIBIADES

Woodbine based TU ENDIE WEI, a double stakes winner, had her first loss yesterday at Keeneland when she flattened out in the Alcibiades. The winner, Stephanie’s Kitten, was coming out of Woodbine’s Natalma Stakes, won by Mark Casse trainee NORTHERN PASSION.
The Johar gal looked like she was putting in a beautiful run for Brereton Jones but she stalled in the stretch. The following quotes are from Keeneland:

Reade Baker (trainer of seventh-place finisher and beaten
favorite Tu Endie Wei) ‘I don’t know if we’ll go on to the Breeders’ Cup; that’s up to the boss (owner Brereton Jones). She really got fired up in the gate. Your stalls are much wider and make a lot more noise than ours in Canada and she didn’t like it.”

James McAleney (rider of Tu Endie Wei)

“She got very antsy in the gate. At about the half-mile mark she was ready to run, but that (the gate) had already taken too much out of her. I have a ton of respect for this filly. You didn’t get to see what she can do yet, but you will some day.”

WOODBINE – thanks for big races this weekend!

Big fields and big races are the name of the game from today through Monday as we head through Thanksgiving and into Canadian International week.

Today it is the MAZARINE STAKES, an open 2yo filly race that, while not graded anymore, has lured a large field and an interesting betting race.

MAZARINE was a 1945 filly whose claim to fame was producing ACE MARINE, a Hall of Fame runner who won the Canadian Triple Crown, but 4 years before it became the Triple Crown.

This year’s field is interesting with recent stakes winner ROSE AND SHINE stretching out and meeting open company for the first time, a trio from John Oxley and trainer Mark Casse, all of whom could pop up, and the very intriguing Team Valor recent purchase M’DEAREST, a maiden who comes off a ridiculous trip in her most recent in California…

YESTERDAY AT WOODBINE

It was a WHERE’S THE RING Daily Double as NICOLA’S NICKERS and LEGATO, daughters of the local sire, won the 1 1/16 mile races for begin the day.
The former, owned by Mike Ambler and partners and trained by Nick Gonzalez, rallied wide to win the $23,500 claiming event under Emma-Jayne Wilson.
In race 2, Maple Lane Farms’ Legato (interestingly, bred in North Carolina) won her maiden with a similar move for trainer Laurie Silvera, under Omar Moreno. That was a maiden allowance.

SPIDER ROCK, a gallant 8-year-old, won his 14th race in his 31start in race 3 for $32,00 claiming. The speedy dude zoomed up the rail to win with an 84 Beyer Figure – 7 furlongs in 1:22 2/5.
Steve Attard trains for the partnership of Morrison and Schmidt and Emile Ramsammy gave the dude a shrewd ride.

BC Bred ALBERTA BREEZE won his maiden in his Ontario debut for owner Peter Redekop BC Ltd. and trainer Terry Jordan in race 4. The son of Gilded Time was the 2nd winner of the day for Omar Moreno and the race 6 furlong dash was for $32,000 claiming.

Other winners yesterday included the useful Ontario sired 3yo KUROGANE, who won an Ontario sired allowance with a 72 Beyer Figure for Chiefswood Stable, the 2nd winner for jockey Wilson…Champion HOLLINGER won the featured allowance, a 6 1/2 furlOng turf dash, by half a length over Silver Medallion. The winner is a homebred for Robert Harvey and Tylzer Pizarro rode…trainer Steve Attard capped a good day with another winner when Track West 2’s SWEET MAY WEST won her maiden in the finale under Justin Stein.

MAHBOOBA item from Bet123.net

from bet123.net:
Mahbooba books her ticket for E P Taylor Stakes

Leading international trainer Mike de Kock struck for the first time in the UK this term at the eleventh time of asking when his talented filly Mahbooba proved far too strong for her rivals in Newmarket’s listed Aqlaam Godolphin Stakes and looks to have booked her place in the line-up for the $1 million E P Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in Canada on October 16, writes Elliot Slater.

De Kock has always held the four-year-old daughter of Galileo in high regard and the key to her improved performance seemed to be the step up to 12-furlongs for the first time in her career. Despite taking a strong grip under Pat Cosgrave, Mahbooba sailed into the lead fully three-quarters-of-a-mile from home on the Rowley Mile track and never looked in any danger thereafter, galloping on purposefully to the line to record a facile six-length verdict over Al Shemali. Even people looking forward to the Breeders Cup 2011 will have been impressed.

The relatively fast surface (for the time of year) was also cited as being a factor in the improved form shown by the filly who had failed to sparkle in her two previous outings in Britain this term when finishing third to French Navy on the July course, and out of the money in Group 3 company at Windsor behind Prince Siegfried. Mahbooba enjoyed a successfully time of things at Meydan during the Dubai Carnival during the winter, easily landing the UAE 1000 Guineas in February, then finishing second in the UAE Oaks (behind Kawlah), and third to the same horse in the UAE Derby on World Cup night at the end of March.
