CONQUEST STABLES AND MARK CASSE – PYJAMA PARTY!
MARK CASSE set up shop in California this year to have a chance at a “home field” advantage and now that the pre-entries are out for the 3-th Breeders’ Cup Championships, it looks as if he has done quite okay with that plan.
Casse names CONQUEST ECLIPSE (Malibu Moon) as his leading Breeders’ Cup hopeful (Juvenile fillies) as the filly, owned by Ernie Semersky and Dory Newell has come off an illness and run well in Grade 1 company.
Conquest Harlanate, a Canadian-bred by Harland’s Holiday – Allison’s Pride by Dixieland Band, bred by Bill Graham, is a major player in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Conquest Typhoon, also a Canadian-bred, is entered in the Juvenile Turf. He is a Stormy Atlantic colt out of Swanky Bubbles, by Ascot Knight, bred by Josham Farms and is one of 20 entered in the race. Paul Reddam’s MILTEE is on the AE list.
KAIGUN, owned by Gary Barber, Harvey Schwartz and Tina Casse, is one of 29 entered in the B Cup Turf Sprint but he has first preference in the Mile, with 25 pre-entered.
COREY NAKATANI rides Conquest Eclipse while PATRICK HUSBANDS will ride CONQUEST HARLANATE, CONQUEST TYPHOON and KAIGUN, IF Kaigun runs in the Mile.
“If Kaigun runs in the 6 1/2 furlong downhill sprint, I will try for a local rider. We were initially leaning towards that race but with Wise Dan out, he may do the Mile. He needs a fast pace up front.”
“Conquest Harlanate thinks she’s the boss right now,” said Casse. “She worked really well at Chutchill Downs the other day and they are all on their way to California now.”
On Conquest Typhoon, Casse said, “Well, it was ludicrous that he had to carry 125 pounds in his last race (Grey Stakes on Polytrack). Talk about discouraging a young horse from ever wanting to race again. I still thought he was going to win but Patrick said he shied from the tracks (on the Polytrack) and he momentum slowed down. But we do feel he is a better turf horse.”
MORE CANADIAN ENTRIES – SOMETHING EXTRA, owned by John Menary and Gail Cox and trained by Gail Cox is one of 29 in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
GRAND ARCH, for Jim and Susan Hill and trainer Brian Lynch, is in the Mile. MAJESTIC PRESENCE, co-owned by Glen Todd’s NORTH AMERICAN THOROUGHBRED HORSE COMPANY, is entered in the Juvenile Fillies.
Woodbine stakes winners JUST THE JUDGE, CASPAR NETSCHER, TRADE STORM and INTERNATIONAL STAR are in various races as is BROWN PANTHER, the feisty horse who was favoured for the Canadian International but ran off.
