FRIDAY WOODBINE WRAP

One of the hottest barns around right now is that of MIKE DOYLE, who sent out a 3rd debut winning in the last month on Friday.

LAMORIELLO (yes, the same last name as the Toronto Maple Leafs manager), a $27,000 2yo purchase in June in ocala, won a 1 mile and 70 yard maiden 2yo filly race that came off the grass for Bill Graham. The Eskendereya filly out of Sensibly Chic by Distorted Humor is from a Grade 2 winning mare. She had a nice workout for that 2yo sale but was let do at 12-1 in a small field in this opener. David Moran rode.

Other winners on Friday including UNION CONQUEROR, a 2yo by Sky Conqueror who won a maiden allowance for Ontario sired fillies for Bill Sorokolit. The filly, trained by Darwin Banach, is actually a Florida bred bought for $10,000 as a weanling. She was adding Lasix, blinkers and had Emma-Jayne Wilson on board.

Gail Wood and Dr Ruth Barbour’s  KASUGA won her 2nd straight race with a score for $40,00 claiming at 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17 (78 Beyer Figure). The Temple City filly was ridden by Wilson who has been on a roll. Phil Gracey grabbed his 5th win of the year.

YOU KNOW JACK knew enough to win his career debut for $25,000 for 2yos. This is a Pure Prize colt, bred in Kentucky, and he worked 2 furlongs in 22 1/5 for a 2yo sale in Ocala in June and was bought for $11,000. Wosley Finch owns and Abraham Katryan grabbed his 15th win of the year. Eurico da Silva rode. Both You Know Jack and 4th place finisher Let’s Play were claimed by Tucci Stables and trainer Jamie Attard.

Trainer KEVIN ATTARD has had a monster season and he won 2 races on Friday to boost his total to 34 wins on the year. New Forester won for the 3rd time in 2015 and UNCORKED SPIRIT won an $8,000 claiming race for the combination of Cory Hoffman and Stephen Chesney. Luis Contreras rode the strut the Stage 3yo gelding.

 

 

WOODBINE WEDNESDAY WRAP –

 

JOHNNY BEAR, the most expensive yearling sold at auction in Canada three years ago, won for the 2nd time in his career taking an 1 1/4 mile first-level allowance race by a neck in 2:06.06. The son of English Channel 0 IN return by Horse Chestnut (SAf) was ridden by Jesse Campbell and is owned by Bear Stables and Colebrook Farm. Ashlee Brnjas is the trainer. Johnny Bear is 2 for 16 in his career and with the $42,000 from the win on Wed. night, is now just over $158,000 in earnings.

EXTRA QUIET, Thoroughblogs Best Bet of the night, won the 3rd race for $8,000 claiming, her second win of the season and Gary Boulanger rode this well named daughter of Silent Name out of Silent Wind by Cryptoclearance. Brandon and Terry Greer and Janet ward own the 4yo filly and Sheila Cramer bred the three-time career winner.
Mias Stage broke down in the race and was vanned off.

Tucci Stables continues its roll as FROSTY VIXEN, by War Cry,, won her maiden in this 6 1/2 furlong maiden race for $25,000 claiming 2yo fillies. The winner was making just her 2nd career start and she rallied wide for the win under Emma-Jayne Wilson. The winner was bred by John Carey and Nick Gonzalez trains. Beginner I Cannot Find It was a belated 4th and galloped out well.

NARROW ESCAPE, a half brother to Prince of Wales winner Coltimus Prime, won this maiden allowance at 1 1/16 miles thanks to a deft ride by Jesse Campbell, a super judge of pace. The winner was 4 wide in the slow early pace (25 4/5, 51 1/5), grabbed the lead 2 wide off the turn for home and outbattled other pace runners Cherubashka and Mick the Conqueror to win for trainer Justin Nixon, who co-owns with JMCs Racing and Warren Dehan. It was the 4th career start for the son of Sky Conqueror who was coming off a 10th place finish on the grass. Jayson Horner bred the bay colt who ran the distance in 1:47.30
Note that Terra Xpress ran a nice race to rally from far back to be 5th, galloping out well for trainer sandra Dominguez.

race 6 — fillies and mares for $25,000 claiming at 6 1/2 furlongs and GENEROUS CONSORT came from the rail in the back on the turn and moved between and then outside and up to win for her 4th career score for Rainbow End Racing and Ron House, trained Darren Glennon. Great ride by Luis Contreras to get this Philanthropist mare up and she is 2 for 8 this year with over $70,000 in earnings this year alone.

PEGGY O has not a lost a race she has finished. This Philanthropist filly, a 3yo for Kingview Farm which also bred her, is 3 for 4 and her only other race she pulled up. She added Lasix after not finishing and has won 2 straight including this allowance race for non-winners of 1 other than maiden or claiming. Her time of 1:16.37 was good for a 78 Beyer Speed Figure. Peggy O led all the way under Eurico da Silva and Catherine Day Phillips was winning her 10th race of the season.

The last race of the night went to CIVIC DUTY, owned and bred by Chris Harris. This is a Proud Citizen filly out of Touch My Soul by Miswaki and she was making her 2nd career start and 2nd start for maiden $16,000 claiming. She rallied wide for the win at 5-2 for trainer Rachel Halden and jockey Steve Bahen.

 

ROCK FALL breaks down at Keeneland Saturday morning

 

 

The stallion deal was just completed and his final career start was coming up. But Rock Fall won’t be doing either.

The son of Speightstown, once beaten in a remarkable sprint career, broke down at Keeneland on Saturday morning during a workout.

One of the stars in the sprint division this year, Rock Fall captured the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt, the G1 Vosburgh, and the G2 True North. Owned by Stonestreet Stables and trained by Todd Pletcher, he was seven-for-eight with earnings of $749,180.

Todd Pletcher trained the gutsy colt.

 

PENNSYLVANIA REGULATORS KEEP RACING PUBLIC IN THE DARK

 “This was a terrible mistake by a young jockey who said in a message subsequently posted on social media that  he had never been on a horse that broke down, didn’t know Armani the Won was injured until he finally pulled    the horse up, and was in shock when he realized what had happened. He expressed sorrow for the incident.”
