HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? MO MO MO!!! Lots of action yesterday – even more today – starting with the Arc card this morning. Baby, it’s cold outside but stay inside and watch racing!!

Well, he had to wait until the very last race with one of his last entrants on a busy day, and then he had to sweat out a photo, but Mark Casse got the record for most wins in a Woodbine season.

Masked Maiden, a three-year-old Sky Mesa filly owned by Nuckols Farm and Debby M. Oxley, notched her second win of the campaign under jockey Omar Moreno, a nose win in a photo, to give the conditioner his 90th win. She paid $8.10 for the win in the mile and 70 yard off-the-turf allowance timed in 1:43.57.

That the record-setting mark came with a horse partly owned by the Oxley family was fitting.

“It’s really nice to be able to win for the Oxley’s, because they’ve
been such big supporters of ours,” said Casse. “Anytime you can do
something no one has ever done, that’s special.  To win more races than anyone has ever done here (at Woodbine) is quite an achievement for me.”

The native of Indianapolis, Indiana was overwhelmed.

“All I’ve ever wanted to do since I was a little boy was to be a
horse trainer,” said Casse. “I’m very proud of this. I have a lot of
people that helped this become a reality, including wonderful owners, my wife and my family.”

Casse, in line to become Woodbine’s leading conditioner for the fifth consecutive year, is enjoying a tremendous campaign with 11 stakes victories, nine of which were notched at the Toronto oval.

The three-time Sovereign Award-winning conditioner has scored a pair of graded stakes victories this season with Pool Play in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs and with Northern Passion in the Grade 2 Natalma at Woodbine.

He currently sits 49 wins ahead of his nearest competitor in the win table through 2011 and will add to his string of 10 consecutive top-five finishes.

Casse isn’t looking to rest on his laurels.
“You look at the New York Yankees and they won five consecutive World Series from 1949-1953,” said Casse. “You never want to lose that drive to be successful. All it does is make you want to win it more. That’s something that doesn’t change.”

The conditioner’s record-setting tally arrived with his 391st start of the meet, improving on Passero’s record, which was accomplished in 415 starts during the 1995 meet.

A very good day for ‘Sir’ Laurie Silvera, the popular conditioner who won 2 of his 3 races yesterday. One of those was with ARIANA D who skipped to a big win in the off-the-turf AVOWAL STAKES.
“Who says a rain dance doesn’t work,” joked Silvera. “Once it came off the turf, I figured she’d be mighty tough to beat and she ran as
The 5yo mare had been second 5 times in her 6 races this year, 4 graded stakes, including her last 3 in succession, all stakes; As tough as nails, the Pennsylvania bred by ROCK SLIDE (AP Indy) was well back early in the Avowal but a mad speed duel bwteen Atlantic Hurricane and Woolly Bear set things up for the stretch runner. Omar Moreno rode the Maple Lane Farm LLC ga.

Silvera’s other winner was BIG BROWN BREWSKI for Jhn and Marilyn HIller’s Love 2 Win Stable in race 8/ The homebred by Milwaukee Brew had Emma-Jayne Wilson for the $16K claiming event.

KITTY’S GOT CLASS ran like a very green 2yo in the Victoria Queen Stakes but despite bearing in badly at the start and then outwards on the backstrtech, the Old Forester gal won the stake with a 70 Beyer Figure for her 2nd win in 2 races. Owned by Mike Colterjohn and Denny Andrews, the filly was a $2,500 yearling.

Stanley Petter Jr.’s Ontario bred 2yo filly CONSECUTIVE, now owned by Double D Stable, won the day’s opener, a maiden allowance around 2 turns. The daughter of the late Bold Executive – Conica by Cipayo was racing for the 2nd time and was 1st time with Lasix. Ian Black trains and Emma-Jayne Wilson rode.

POINT OF EMMINENCE won her debut in race 2, also a 1 1/16 mile race for 2yos, this one for $32,000 claiming. Owned and bred by Roger Fortier’s Jus Luk Stable, the POint Given filly rallied from well back upder Jim McAleney, who tried to keep the filly from lugging in through the stretch and he lost his whip in the meantime.
