1,000 **wins for trainer Nick Gonzalez……but read Daily Racing Form below for the **

FROM FORT ERIE MEDIA:

The celebration is on. Trainer Nick Gonzalez notched his 1,000th career win this afternoon when Boca Pass charged to victory in Fort Erie ’s 8th race.

“I’m more relieved than anything else,” said Gonzalez. “I kept thinking to myself, I did go 0 for 20 not long ago and sure didn’t want to re-visit that with just one win to go.”

Boca Pass, with Anthony Stephen in the saddle, came from off the pace to score a three length victory over second place finisher Theboyscanswim. Playboy at Home was third.

The four-year-old son of Johannesburg covered the five and one half furlongs in 1:04 2/5th seconds.

Gonzalez, who saddled his first winner at Commodore Downs in Erie Pennsylvania thirty-four years ago, has started 5,765 horses during his career. Along with the 1,000 wins, Gonzalez has recorded 809 seconds and 710 third place finishes. Horses conditioned by Gonzalez have earned $16,925,252.

“It’s always been a team effort,” said Nick. “My wife (Martha) and I have worked very hard over the years and we’ve always had a great team that includes my son Nick. We couldn’t have done this without each other.”

Gonzalez, who has horses at both Fort Erie and Woodbine, has saddled 29 stakes winners over the years and his biggest stakes moment could be coming up July 4 at Woodbine. The Niagara Falls , New York native is scheduled to start Big Red Mike in the 151st running of the Queen’s Plate.

MEANWHILE, DAILY RACING FORM’S BILL TALLON reported that the win was actually his 1,001 as a ruling that came down yesterday that awared his former runner KLONDIKE JANE, w in from last year when the actual winner of that race had a positive test.

So…it’s MICHAEL’S BAD BOY, owned and bred by Joan Agro who is actually Nick Gonzalez’s 1,000 winner?

Gonzalez lost a good horse on the weekend when STUCK IN TRAFFIC a stakes winner, was claimed for $20,000 by Bruno Schickedanz and trainer MIKE WRIGHT JR.

UNITED THEY STAND

First race for new syndicate

After two years of excitement and patient partners United Thoroughbreds is set to make its debut race! WHERE’SACONNECTION is entered Thursday June 24th in the 8th race at Woodbine.

A homebred for HorsePower Racings Tim Orlando and Bev Chubb, WHERE’S A CONNECTION was too large of a filly to make the races as a two year old. With consistent workouts from regular jockey Martin Ramirez she is ready to make her Debut at three in an Ontario Sired Maiden Allowance for Fillies and Mares, going 5 furlongs on the Polytrack.

United Thoroughbreds was started in 2008 by David Godin as a company to bring New owners into the exciting Sport of Kings and become one of Canada’s Leading Thoroughbred horse racing partnership companies. They currently have two partnerships formed with a few shares left in a two year filly by Ontario’s new and exciting stallion Old Forester. Their website has a full company profile and tons of information, pictures and videos. Visit www.UnitedThoroughbreds.com for more information.

United Thoroughbreds welcomes all family, friends and fans to witness their debut race and there will be reserved grandstand seating on the first balcony after the wire for all. We look forward to seeing you there!

WEST POINT THOROUGHBRED SYNDICATE SEMINAR DATE CHANGED

Last week Thoroughblog wrote about the Canadian-breds in training with Mark Casse for the popular syndicate WEST POINT THOROUGHBREDS and the new owners seminar it has scheduled for Woodbine. The date of the seminar has been changed from this weekend to JULY 10.

Read on:

West Point Thoroughbreds has arrived at Woodbine and we would like for you to join us at

Mark Casse’s barn on Saturday, July 10th at 8:30 a.m.

Meet Mark and his staff along with West Point Thoroughbred’s Jeff Lifson and Josh Cooper

But it’s really all about the horses, come watch Bold Henry and Enduring Star on the track and at the barn.  Both are currently available for syndication.

RSVP with Shannon Castagnola [email protected] by July 5th to reserve your spot.

You must RSVP as we will need to get paperwork to you to have access to the backstretch.

QUEEN’S PLATE 151

JULY 4, LEADING CONTENDERS

Now things are starting to get crazy – the number of horses whispered to be ‘considering’ the Plate has swelled to 18 with ARTIC FERN, MOBILIZER AND HOTEP the three favourites…

While the race is JULY 4, an American holiday, the stakes schedule for the Sunday looks a bit week south of the border, thus don’t be surprised if jocks like MIKE SMITH and JAVIAR CASTELLANO are among the U.S. riders that will be brought in to ride some of these Canadian bred 3yos.

SAM-SON FARMS is looking to start 3 (although it’s debut winner ARROW’S CONQUEST race an 86 Beyer Figure on the weekend and is probably as good or better than most of these guys) and some long time Canadian owners who have never won the Plate have good chances – TERRA FARMS, CARMEN DIPAOLA ETC.
