We had a ‘pain in the ass’ day at Balsam Hall. We had to move horses and shift bedding and floor mats in a dozen stalls for a VERY good cause. When we moved into Balsam Hall over five years ago, the stalls were in very poor shape. There were bars on the front of the stalls that were far too widely spaced and just begged for a horse to get his foot caught through. The other three walls were completely solid so the stalls were dark and the horses could only see other horses if they looked straight out the front through the awful bars.

A good friend, Ron McCullough came to the rescue. In less than a week, all the unsafe bars had been removed and the top half of the stalls had spacers put in between the planks so that the horses can get more light and airflow plus see out all four sides of the stall while still retaining privacy. It was a great fix! Today Ron came back to do some touch up repairs for us in ten stalls. Bottom planks had either rotted or cracked and had to be removed and replaced and here and there a horse had kicked and semi dislodged or broken a plank. All is now fixed, safe and ready to rock. Thank you Ron, it was a hectic day but we are all thrilled with the results.

In Florida things are at full flow. Our very good friend and ex working student Angie Huber is visiting us in Ocala and, of course, we have put her to good work. In all fairness, Angie did a winter in Ocala with us when she was a student so she knew what she was letting herself in for when she came to Ocala for a week! There is no show this weekend, however, The Carolinas CIC is so big they are starting the dressage on the WEDNESDAY and doing the in barns on the Tuesday…as it is a 10-hour drive, the horses will have to travel on the Monday. It really is a week long show. Angie will no doubt be riding LOTS, mucking out LOTS and unpacking and repacking LOTS ready for the next big outing. I feel like Red Hills is barely over and we are already looking at leaving again on Monday!

Angie will get to ride the babies I am sure. I am SO jealous. I am only able to ride for 10 minutes twice a week at present, but I hope I will be able to ride Benny and Rummy when they come home. We have started working on the logistics of getting them all home after The Fork. It’s incredible to think we are at that stage, they only seem to have gone south a few weeks ago.
