Well here we were this morning, still packing in the dark… Yes, we did stop and sleep, but not for long.

The four horses, two dogs and two ladies pulled out the driveway at 7:30 a.m. Ahead of the snow squalls and on time. Of course, that didn’t last long…when they got to the border Selena was told that due to a new policy they were making people broker their own horses through. We had heard rumours about this and a driving friend of mine was told she was going to have to join a Truckers Union in order to be allowed to drive her own horse across the border. Every now and then something like this flares up and for a while all the rules change and life is difficult. Anyway, common sense prevailed and just as Selena was considering calling it a day and making the brokerage arrangements from home, instead of while the horses were standing in sub-zero temperatures. The custom officer came through for her and she was told she was good to go. Phew. Fortunately they still managed to stay ahead of the snow and will be somewhere in Pennsylvania by my reckoning.

Heading out, bright and early.

Heading out, bright and early.

I am trying to find a spot on a trailer to send Rummy south before the end of the month. He really doesn’t look too scrawny any more. He is going to lose weight on the journey and I want him to gain as much as possible before he sets off on his Ocala adventures. He will probably drop most or all of what he has gained, but he needed to put weight on so that he can take it off again. (There seems to be a flaw in that logic, but I can’t put my finger on it.)

Selena has been invited to ride at the Wellington Eventing Showcase on January 29-30. She is very excited to have been asked and she and Woody are going to give it their best go. We hope Woody will make all our sponsors and supporters proud.
