My blog started in August, 2005 to chronicle my progress in training “A First Romance" (a.k.a. Solo) into a world class Eventing horse. Now eight-years-old, Solo is close to competing in the Intermediate 1 division. He's fabulous XC but does still tend to voice his opinion during dressage... never a dull moment.

Solo's ridden by my daughter, Selena, who competed at her first Olympics in 2008 with Colombo. Selena also rides several different horses out of our homebase, Hawkridge Farms, which is owned by the Davies.

This blog chronicles both our adventures as we continue to train Eventing horses. Occasionally, Selena will make an entry on her progress at competitions particularly on the lead up to major events. Please feel free to ask questions or send comments.

Selena’s 10cents worth 3

Phew… what a lot of walking! Not only do I get the pleasure of walking the course, A LOT. But the walking to and fro is something else here at WEG’s. We started the day by cheering on Rebecca. She

Second Day of Dressage

It was another busy day here at the horse park.  We got up early to make sure we were there in plenty time to watch Rebecca Howard and Riddle Master do their dressage.  They put in a great test.  As

First Day of Dressage

Well it was good and bad.  Colombo was fit and cheeky.  He was a bit explosive in the ring, something he has never been before, not even in Hong Kong where the crowd was electric.  He went into the ring

Selenas 10 cents worth #2

Hmmm….well….I was going to write about the test of a life time;)  Instead I will tell you how I rode what I had under me on the day.  Colombo is the fittest I think he has ever been with me.

Selena’s 10 cents worth

Ooh, la, la!! World Equestrian Games! La creme de la creme. I have been lifting my jaw off the ground since I arrived Sept 24th. I am rubbing shoulders with the best of the best, some of which I have

WEG

And so it begins, or is it the finish?  It seems like we have been “on the road” to the WEG since Colombo left Hong Kong.  It’s a huge excitement to be here, at an Olympics just for horses.  The

Only one more selection trial to go.

Richland Park was HUGE.  I went there three years ago when they had a tornado go through and take down all the tents.  It has grown in the past three years.  It has to be one of the biggest events

Summer Roller Coaster

The Summer is a rushing river that carries the whole barn along like uncontrolled flotsam and jetsam.  The weeks are spiraling rapidly towards the WEG and I keep panicking about how I am going to get the barn packed and

More shows, more shows to come.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qx79V-JO5g This is Selena’s dressage on Song of Songs, her one star horse from Will O Wind last weekend. All in all, the weekend was a great success. Song of Songs was third in her first one star. She had

The Season Continues

Solo qualified on his third Intermediate horse trial.  Not bad I suppose, but I am still a big niggled that he stopped at Grandview because he just HAD to spook. Grrrr.  He ran at Headwaters and came sixth in the
