ORC Manager of Veterinary Services Dr. Adam Chambers announced that the training time restrictions placed on horses stabled in Woodbine’s Barn 10 are now removed, effective March 27, 2014.

Horses from Barn 10 are now free to train during regular training hours. Horses temperatures should continue to be taken twice daily and monitored closely for clinical signs consistent with EHV-1 infection. Restrictions on the use of ponies remain. Increased biosecurity measures should still be in place at least until April 10th.

The infectious and serious nature of this disease prompted these measures and reinforced the need to protect Ontario’s equine athletes. As a standard practice, participants are reminded of the importance of establishing appropriate biosecurity measures.
