The second event in the central region of the 2011 Jump Canada Young Horse Series was held June 22-26 at the CornerStone Show in Palgrave, ON.

In the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division, Wicoca, ridden by Erynn Ballard of Hillsburgh, ON, took the win with two clear rounds and a time of 34.12 seconds.  Owned by South Shore Farm in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC, the eight-year-old grey Dutch Warmblood gelding was bred in the Netherlands and is by Concorde out of a Capitol II mare.

Yann Candele of Caledon, ON, guided Cassius Clay to a second place finish, also going double clear, stopping the clock in 35.36 seconds in the jump-off.  The seven-year-old gelding is Canadian-bred.  By Catrick II and out of a For Pleasure mare, the Canadian Warmblood is owned by Lyda Bostock.

Finishing third was Ballard aboard another Dutch-bred horse, Wennous, owned by the Looking Good Group.  Ballard and Wennous had the fourth fence down in the jump-off, crossing the timers in 31.43 seconds.  The eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare is by Orame and out of a Peter Pan mare.

For the second time in a row, Stephanie-Dubois-Emond captured victory in the Six-Year-Old Division aboard the Canadian-bred EWSZ’s Jerevel.  The pair was one of only three to advance to the jump-off where they again jumped clear in a time of 33.64 seconds.

“She was really, really good,” said the 21-year-old of the bay Rheinland Pfalz-Saar mare owned and bred by European Warmblood Stallion Zentrum Inc. of Arva, ON.  “She actually jumped me right out of the tack, making me loose my stirrups, because she was blowing over the fences so well.  She always tries her hardest every time out and is just such a good-hearted mare.”

Dubois-Emond, who hails from Gurnee, IL, plans to campaign EWSZ’s Jerevel, who is by Daimier D’Adriers and out of a Rio Grande mare, for the remainder of the 2011 Jump Canada Young Horse Series.

“Hopefully she’ll continue to do well in the rest of the Young Horse Series and someone will come along and buy her,” explained Dubois-Emond.  “EWSZ has a great breeding program with around 40 foals a year, and the plan with all of them is to get them going well under saddle and in the show ring, and then sell them to someone who is interested in a great sport horse prospect.”

Stanley Stone, owned and ridden by Elliott Stone of Woodbridge, ON, finished a very close second with a clear jump-off round in a time of 33.66 seconds, just two one-hundredths of a second behind Dubois-Emond.  The bay Dutch Warmblood gelding is by Karandasj and out of an Ekstein mare.

Rounding out the top three was Judgement Day 3E, ridden by Ballard for owner and breeder KingRidge Stables in King City, ON.  The grey Canadian Sport Horse gelding had the third fence down in the jump-off, stopping the clock in 35.87 seconds.  KingRidge Stables bloodlines are prominent in Judgement Day 3E’s breeding, as the gelding is by Double Diamond and out of an Aerobic mare.

High Graham of Loretto, ON also claimed victory at the second Young Horse Series event in a row, guiding Knock Out 3E to another win in the Five-Year-Old Division.  Graham was one of two entries to jump double clear, and his jump-off time of 40.76 seconds secured the win.  Knock Out 3E is owned and bred by KingRidge Stables.  The bay Canadian Sport Horse gelding is by KingRidge stallion Jamestown and out of a Class Action mare.

Stopping the clock in 44.20 seconds and taking second place was Robert Krcmar aboard La Fleur.  Owned by Jacqueline Wickens of Port Credit, ON, the Holsteiner gelding, bred in Germany, is by Nekton and out of a Lorentin I mare.

Beam P, ridden by Natasha Smith-Avery for owner Susan Perreault-Park of Tottenham, ON, was the only other entry in the seven-horse starting field to make it to the jump-off.  However, a wrong turn on course meant elimination and a third place finish.  Bred in Canada by Prima Warmblood of Mount Albert, ON, the bay Dutch Warmblood gelding is by Indoctro and out of an Emilion mare.

The Four-Year-Old Division saw back-to-back wins for Carly Campbell-Cooper of Elora, ON, who once again took home the top prize on Chikita, owned by Double C Stables in Harriston, ON.  The pair put in a clear jumping round for a perfect score of 50 performance points, and the style judge awarded the Dutch Warmblood mare 42 out of a possible 50 style points, bringing their total score to 92.  Chikita was bred in the Netherlands and is by Vernon and out of a Nimmerdor dam.

Dubois-Emond riding EWSZ’s Cabamba received 45 jumping points after a rail down at the ninth fence on course.  Their style score of 40 points gave them a combined score of 85 points for second place.

“This is only her second horse show ever,” said Dubois-Emond.  “We started her last year and brought her down to Florida, not to show, just to hang out.  She keeps progressing more and more every time we take her off the farm.  She gets braver at every show, too.  She’s just such a superstar.”

EWSZ’s Cabamba is owned and bred by European Warmblood Stallion Zentrum Inc.  The bay Rheinland Pfalz-Saar mare is by Corrido de Chatillon and out of a Le Comte II mare.

Finishing one point behind Dubois-Emond was John Teijgeman of Osgoode, ON, and the Canadian-bred Prestige Empire, who accumulated a total of 84 points.  The pair earned the maximum 50 points for jumping and 34 points for style to place third.  The Dutch Warmblood stallion by Prestige VDL is owned by Empire Stables in King City, ON and was bred by Madia McDonnell.

The purpose of the Jump Canada Young Horse Series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give Canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects.  Competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development.  This careful development allows the horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence.  The Jump Canada Young Horse Series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting.

The 2011 Jump Canada Young Horse Series is truly national in scope with competitions being held from coast to coast.  The National Young Horse Finals will take place at the Canadian Show Jumping Tournament held from September 21-25 in Palgrave, ON.
