Tina Fletcher, reserve rider for the Olympic gold medal winning team from Great Britain, will require surgery on her ankle after a fall at the Spruce Meadows Masters last week.

Fletcher was injured when her horse, Hello Sailor, crashed through the second element of a double oxer during the second round of the CN International. She was thrown from her from mount and, with her leg caught up in the reins, was dragged for several strides.

Initially, it was believed she had broken her ankle, but examination revealed that she has sustained ligament damage, and that one of the horse’s studs had pierced her Achilles’ tendon.

Fletcher flew back the UK on September 11th and will undergo surgery there.
