The second event in the eastern region of the 2011 Jump Canada Young Horse Series was held June 1-5 at Concours Hippiques du Parc in Blainville, QC.
Danimax Farm of Carignan, QC, owned by Christine Boisseau and Nicolas Bayzelon, stole the spotlight in Blainville with three of its horses placing in their respective divisions. Bayzelon and Lazer HB claimed first place in the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division.The pair stopped the clock in the jump-off at 45.37 seconds after putting in two clear rounds.
“Lazer HB has been doing the Young Horse Series since he was five so we aren’t really surprised that he’s been doing so well this year,” said Boisseau.“He’s already started competing in the 1.40m division and will also do the modified grand prix.He’s going further much faster than we expected.”
Bayzelon and Lazer HB also finished second in the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division at the Concours hippique de St-Lazare in St. Lazare, QC on May 27.The seven-year-old bay Luxembourg gelding is the only Danimax Farm horse competing in the Jump Canada Young Horse Series that they did not breed themselves.Lazer HB is Canadian-bred, however, as the gelding was bred by HB Farm in Ste-Clothilde-de-Horton, QC.
Kelley Robinson and Caberlay finished second in the Seven and Eight-Year-Old division with two clear rounds and a time of 54.96 seconds in the jump-off.Owned by Cimarron Show Stables of Russell, ON, the eight-year-old bay Hungarian Warmblood gelding was bred in Hungary and is by Master.
Tatiana Dzavik of Toronto, ON, aboard her mare, Winette, had one rail down in the jump-off to place third.The eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare by Ramon won the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division at the Concours hippique de St-Lazare.
In the Six-Year-Old Division it was Danimax Farm’s homebred stallion, E.T.I. Leonardo that took the win.He and Boisseau captured victory with a clear jump-off performance in a time of 37.78 seconds.
“We starting showing him last year in the 1.15m and he was super good, especially for a stallion,” said Boisseau, who has big plans for the bay Holsteiner stallion by Lestroy.“This was only his second time at 1.25m and we’re thrilled with the results.He will do the 1.30m as well this year and continue to move up from there.I am hoping to get him approved with several breed registries based on his results in the future.He’ll also continue to be used in our own breeding program.”
Dynamo, ridden and owned by Veronique Alary of Rockland, ON, had the fastest time in the jump-off, but a rail down cost them the win.The bay Canadian Warmblood gelding by Dr. Pepper, bred by South Lane Farm in Vankleek Hill, ON, finished second.Rounding out the top three was Empire 181, the 2010 Five-Year-Old Eastern Regional Champion.Ridden by Taylor Brooks for owner Wynbrook Farm of Vars, ON, the Hannoverian gelding by Embassy I incurred four faults in the opening round.
In the Five-Year-Old Division, Thijs Clauwers rode Giacome Di Cantero to victory.The pair had two clear rounds and crossed the timers in 48.93 seconds in the jump-off.Owned by Bea Jarzynska, the bay Belgian Warmblood stallion is by Eurocommerce Berlin and out of a Clinton mare.
Second place finisher Bianca Lafontaine riding Wildcat also went double clear, but in a slower time of 50.06 seconds.The Holsteiner mare is by Bratt Z and is owned by South Shore Farm in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC.Marie-Louise Theoret and her horse SLF Destiny placed third after a rail down in the first round.Bred by South Lane Farm, the Canadian Warmblood mare is by Dr. Pepper and out of a Raphael mare.
Topping the Four-Year-Old Division was Gepetto, ridden by Vanessa Paschini of Boisbriand, QC, for the Equifind Group.The chestnut Canadian Sport Horse gelding is by the Oldenburg stallion Grannius.
Zelda Princess took second place under Boisseau. The grey Holsteiner mare is another example of the sport horses produced by Danimax Farm’s breeding program.
“This mare is awesome,” said Boisseau.“We just broke her in February and she hasn’t really shown before. She had never been in a jumper ring but was super her first time out. She’s a Cassini II and is really great to ride, which I think is a characteristic of the stallion.My goal is to get her to the National Finals. She’s for sale, so I would love to showcase her there.”
The purpose of the Jump Canada Young Horse Series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give Canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects.Competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development.This careful development allows the horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence.The Jump Canada Young Horse Series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting.
The 2011 Jump Canada Young Horse Series is truly national in scope with competitions being held from coast to coast.The National Young Horse Finals will take place at the Canadian Show Jumping Tournament held from September 21-25 in Palgrave, ON.
