The Split Rock Jumping Tour is honoured to award the Sophie C. Walker Perpetual Trophy during the Lexington International CSI 3* $130,000 Grand Prix, presented by Split Rock Farm. Established in loving memory of fellow equestrian, Sophie Walker, the award will be given to the winner of the feature class.

“When Sophie came to the Split Rock show last year with her husband Brian, she loved the atmosphere and intimate feel. We wanted Sophie to always be a part of this show and we wanted to be able to recognize her in a special way,” said SRJT Founder Derek Braun.

In Sophie’s early riding career, she won the 2001 Equitation New England Junior Medal Championship and enjoyed much success on the East Coast Circuit, including Hits-on-the-Hudson victories in 2009, and more recently with her mounts Mr. Mattingly and Whiskey. Whiskey was a special horse to her and she competed him regularly in the A/O Jumpers. Having developed a great partnership, the 14-year-old Rhineland gelding became a favorite and reliable mount with Sophie. Her husband, professional rider Brian Walker, owns and operates Woodside Farm, Inc. based in Wellington, FL and Lexington, KY.

“Sophie was always a welcome face in the Lexington and equestrian communities. Her kindness, generosity and just sheer love of the sport left an indelible mark on us all. It’s our hope that her memory and spirit stays with us and the future generations through this award,” Braun stated.

The inaugural Sophie C. Walker Perpetual Trophy will be presented to the winner of the $130,000 CSI 3* Grand Prix on Sunday, May 29, 2016 with a special ceremony honouring Sophie. Prior to the start of the class, sponsors that have made this special tribute possible will be recognized.
