A number of top mounts have been withdrawn from 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games competition just days before they were due to compete. In eventing, the German Equestrian Federation announced that Michael Jung’s Olympic gold medal mount La Biosthetique Sam FBW will not compete, because the 14-year-old is suffering lameness caused by inflammation in a front hoof. Jung will instead ride his second-string horse, the nine-year-old mare Fischer Rocana FST.

In dressage, two horses on the powerful Dutch dressage squad have also been withdrawn. Glock’s Undercover, ridden by Edward Gal, developed an inflammation in the cervical spine; Glock’s Voice, a 12-year-old black stallion, will now be Gal’s mount. Another injury sidelined Danielle Heijkoop’s Kingsley Siro NOP, so Diederik van Silfhout and Arlando NH NOP will ride in their place.
