The Ontario Animal Health Network (OAHN) is a dedicated group of veterinarians from primary care practices, academia, government and laboratories who meet regularly to discuss Equine disease and health issues. It is their intent to monitor and protect the health of horses in Ontario.

At this link they have provided the Equine Expert Network Quarterly Owner Report for April to June 2016. Based on the Ontario Disease Surveillance program, the key points include:

  • Potomac Horse Fever was diagnosed in the Simcoe area.
  • A moderate increase was observed in upper respiratory tract viral infections in the Standardbred industry likely due to equine rhinitis A virus.
  • Rabies control efforts continue for the raccoon strain of rabies in the Hamilton and surrounding area.
