Jordan McDonald of Oakville, ON, took first place in the CIC 2* Will O’ Wind Farm Horse Trials , Orangeville, ON, July 14, riding Amanda and Jorge Bernhard’s Glencento, a seven-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare sired by Inocent. Will O’ Wind Farm is the site of the cross country competition at the 2015 Pan American Games.

McDonald sat in second place following dressage and show jumping on a 45.3 behind Callie Evans of Reaboro, ON, and Glendening Avis, her eight-year-old Canadian Sport Horse mare sired by Ferrari GS, who held the lead on a score of 43.4. Close behind in third spot on a score of 46.0 was Colleen Loach of Duham, QC, riding Qorry Blue D’Argouges, a nine-year-old Selle Francaise gelding sired by Mr. Blue, owned by Susan and Peter Barry, while Lisa Fergusson of Langley, BC sat in fourth place with Feral Errol, Gina Fiore’s 14-year old Irish Sport Horse gelding sired by Errolgal Flight, on a 49.1.

It came down to wire for the final four over Canadian designer Jay Hambly’s cross country course. McDonald took the win by posting a 6:00 minute ride for 6.8 time penalties finishing on 52.1 and overtaking Evans, who dropped to third after accumulating 13.2 time penalties cross country. Fergusson moved up to place second, earning four time penalties and finishing on a score of 53.1 while Loach finished fourth on a score of 58.0. Loach also took fifth place with Susan and Peter Barry’s Freespirit, the seven-year-old Canadian bred mare by Freedom Z.

“I was looking for a good confidence building show as my mare is new to the level this year. I know I could count on great courses and good footing at Will O Wind Farm,” said McDonald. “I am very pleased overall with the results, the mare is owned by Amanda and Jorge Bernhard who are great supporters of mine. I think she is such a great horse and really tried for me. She is a super performer and if I’m half on my job she does the rest! Winning feels great but I am even happier with how confident she felt. The rest of the season will include some local show jumping and then my wife and I are moving to England for a couple years to compete. The plan for Glencento is to compete in the CIC 2* Gatcombe International Horse Trials September 20-22nd at Gatcombe Park, GBR and then hopefully on to Weston Park for the CCI 2* in early October.

McDonald further offered, “I would like to really congratulate Ann and Geoff Morgan on another great event. They are good friends of mine and I think they really set the standard here in Ontario. It is always a pleasure to run there and I am thrilled to have won the CIC 2* on what will probably be my last visit there for some time.”

In the CIC1* division, first place went to Christian Bennett of Sutton, ON partnered with his own Othello of Abbotsford, the 11-year-old Selle Francaise gelding sired by Ilian De Taute, who finished on their dressage score of 49.2. Coming in behind Bennett was Peter Barry of Dunham, QC and Long Island T, his seven-year-old Oldenburg gelding sired by Ludwig Von Byern, who added one time penalty in show jumping and 5.6 time penalties cross country to finish on a final score of 59.4. Sophie Kalpin of King City, ON and Rolex, her own 14-year-old Thoroughbred gelding sired by Polish Pro, came in third on a score of 66.1 after one unlucky rail and time penalties in show jumping but a fault free cross country performance.
