Dressage Canada is pleased to announce that the inaugural Dressage Canada Hall of Fame Organizing Committee has been named 2010 Dressage Canada Volunteers of the of the Year.

In 2009, Dressage Canada announced the establishment of the Dressage Canada Hall of Fame, which was held Sunday, April 25th, 2010, at Toronto’s Eglinton Grand Theatre. Through the Hall of Fame, Dressage Canada shared, celebrated and appreciated the significant Canadian contributors to the sport of dressage.

In addition to recognizing the first inductees who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of dressage in Canada, the net proceeds from the gala assisted the Canadian dressage athletes in their pursuit of excellence at the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games.

The Hall of Fame was a huge success as a result of the hard work and dedication of the volunteer committee comprised of Kim Goodyear, Nancy Petersons, Elizabeth Elming, Cathy Lane, Debbie Elming, Kim Izzo, Elizabeth McMullen and Rebecca Elming.

“It was great to receive the award,” said Goodyear, who was the Hall of Fame Committee chair. “The recognition for the hard working volunteers on the committee is appreciated.”

“The countless hours that Dressage Canada Hall of Fame Organizing Committee spent organizing this tremendously successful event certainly stands out as a significant effort to the benefit of dressage in Canada,” said Dressage Canada 2010 Celebration of Dressage organizer, Lisa Hossack-Scott.

The Dressage Canada Volunteer Recognition Award aims to recognize and acknowledge the contributions of individuals that give their time to Dressage Canada. The nominee does not necessarily have to be currently involved, but may have given outstanding contributions and service in the past.

Past recipients of this award have included Kerri McGregor, Elizabeth Robinson, Carolyn Tipler, Claire Milton, Gwen Beaton, Hazel Stinson, Linda Dieno, Linda Lockhart, Shirley Guertin-Cook, Valerie Frost and Nicole Duplessis.
