When the horse community in Falmouth, Nova Scotia, learned of the devastating fire that destroyed Crosby Stables Monday, June 15th, they immediately rallied in support.

Firefighters from the Windsor, Wolfville, Hantsport, Brooklyn and Summerville fire departments, battled the blaze, which was reported at 7:10 a.m. Due to the rural location, and lack of hydrants, water had to be trucked in.

Sadly, the two-storey 80’x80’ barn is a complete loss. It was reported that horses were inside the breeding and show barn at the time, but the number of fatalities has yet to be confirmed. A number of horses were out at pasture at the time of the fire.

Owner of the family-run business, Kevin Crosby, reportedly sustained burns, and was taken to hospital. Crosby is well-known in the horse industry, as a breeder and trainer, with more than 30 years’ experience.

A Facebook group has been started in support of the family, with already more than 2,000 members. In addition, Holly Chow, co-owner of Bits n Bridles, a tack shop in Falmouth, has started a collection, and is receiving supplies and monetary donations. Call 902-798-2874 to find out how you can help.
