Elite Canadian dressage competitor Karen Pavicic and her two new horses have returned from a successful season on the highly competitive West Coast CDI and US national dressage circuit.

Pavicic of Richmond, BC, rode victory rounds from Northern to Southern California. Among her accomplishments were her rides with Don Daiquiri, the nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding sired by Don Cardinale. At the international Mid Winter Dressage CDI 1* in Burbank, Ca, the pair won the Intermediaire I Freestyle with the high score of 72.417%. They placed second in the highly competitive Intermediaire I class with a 71.974%.

This successful competition produced results similar to their Northern California victories at the Golden State Premiere in Prix St. Georges and the Intermediaire Freestyle with scores of 71.579% and 70.250% respectively.

Not to be left behind, eight-year-old London Z, the newest partner for Pavicic, put on a more than respectable showing throughout the circuit that took them from San Diego to Sacramento. Among his outstanding performances, London Z, a Zangersheide gelding by Lacapo, brought home scores in the high 60s at all of the five prestigious international shows. At the San Diego Dressage Affaire the big grey gelding’s 69.250% in the Intermediaire I Freestyle took a second place to his barn mate the bay Don Daquiri who scored 70.583%.

“I am so proud and excited about how my horses did on this grand trip. We were in the upper reaches of all our classes,” said Pavicic, a Canadian NCCP Level III certified dressage coach who has represented her country at international levels for two decades including as a member of the Canadian 2007 Silver Medal Pan American Games team. This year she has been the long listed by Equine Canada in recognition of their success in 2010.

“My plan with the California trip was to test our competitiveness and now I see we have an amazing future. I have my sights on the highest level of competition.”

Pavicic co-owns London Z with Lynda Hol, and Don Daquiri with Jayne Essig.
