International coaching legend George Morris is coming to Canada as part of ‘A Weekend with George Morris’, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity presented by DMF Productions. Hosted by Angelstone Farms at its facility in Rockwood, Ontario, the three-day clinic running August 3-5 will showcase the master at work as he puts some of Canada’s top grand prix riders through their paces.

Former chef d’équipe of the United States Show Jumping Team, Morris is a world-renowned equestrian, celebrated author, and highly sought-after equitation judge. He is considered a “founding father” of the principals of hunt seat equitation and is one of the most influential riders and trainers in the sport.

Joining Morris as demonstration riders for ‘A Weekend with George Morris’ will be renowned Canadian Show Jumping Team veterans Yann Candele, Mac Cone and Beth Underhill. Together with one of Canada’ fastest rising stars, Sarah Johnstone, this grand prix group will perform challenging exercises designed by Morris himself.

“For my entire life, I’ve always wondered what top grand prix riders did during their lessons,” said ‘A Weekend with George Morris’ organizer Danny Forbes, President of DMF Productions. “Now I, and many others, finally have the chance to find out!”

Forbes continued, “The beauty of a demonstration clinic like this one is that Morris isn’t afraid to take these riders to task. If they’re not riding the exercise correctly, he’ll get on himself and show them how it’s done! It’s a great learning opportunity that is sure to be highly entertaining, especially for the spectators.”

Known for demanding precision, Morris will also be turning his watchful eye on another group of demonstration riders, this one comprised of top up-and-coming professionals including Michelle Becker, Kevin Crosby, Holly Hayman and Anne-Sophie Milette. Both groups will be riding each day of the clinic, giving spectators ample opportunity to see Morris in action coaching Canadian talent.

“This is an amazing opportunity not only for riders, but for anyone with an interest in the sport,” noted Forbes. “Parents, coaches or just horse lovers in general will all gain an incredible amount of information. George really takes the time to explain the principals of correct riding and gives you a complete overview of the entire sport.”
Spectators can purchase early bird tickets for ‘A Weekend with George Morris’ for as little as $75 per day, with prices increasing to $100 per day at the door. Packages provide great deals for those attending all three days, with passes starting at $200. Teens and families can also enjoy additional discounts. VIP seating is available at an additional cost, guaranteeing ringside seats.

“The facility at Angelstone is perfect for this kind of event,” remarked Forbes. “There is plenty of covered seating, ample parking, and the ring is beautifully landscaped with great all-weather footing.”

Campsites with 20 amp are available on-site while Guelph, Milton and the surrounding area offer plenty of choices for accommodation.

“We already have over 100 people coming from out of town; they are buying their tickets at the same time they are booking their flights,” said Forbes.

DMF Productions is dedicated to bringing top equestrian professionals to Ontario to help fellow riders further their skills and to increase enthusiasm for the sport of show jumping.
