The 2011 Equine Canada Annual Convention is set for January 24–31, 2011 at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa, ON, and this year two new clinics are being added for participants. Attendees will now be able to sign up for clinics for Reining Judges and General Breed Sport.

The General Breed Sport Clinic will be led by Gayle Lampe on January 29-30. This comprehensive two day clinic will cover several aspects of breed sport.  Participants will receive judging techniques and information on the Arabian, Morgan, Saddlebred, Hackney, Road Horse and saddle seat equitation divisions. This clinic will also fulfill clinic criteria for the new General Breed Sport Judge accreditation.

All current and prospective Arabian, Morgan, Saddlebred, Hackney, Road Horse or saddle seat equitation judges are encouraged to participate.  However, anyone with an interest in breed sport is welcome to attend.

Gary Yaghdjian and Bernie Hoeltzel will conduct the Reining Judges’ Clinic on January 27-28. The clinic is the first one offered by Equine Canada to accredit judges for sanctioned reining competitions. The course will educate future judges in the scoring system for reining as adopted by Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI). The course will consist of evaluating maneuver scores as well as the assessment of penalties.

This course will be of great value to anyone wishing to become a certified Equine Canada reining judge, or any competitor/trainer interested in improving competition scores. Candidates who successfully pass the test and meet all other Equine Canada requirements will be granted “recorded” judge status.

For more information and to register for the clinics, please visit the convention section of the Equine Canada website.

The 2011 Convention will also play host to the 2011 Equine Canada Awards Gala, taking place at the prestigious National Arts Centre on Saturday, January 29th. Join Equine Canada for a full evening of fine dining and entertainment, as we reflect on our successes of 2010 and honour our national award winners. Equine Canada’s most coveted awards include Equestrian of the Year, Junior Equestrian of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award and the Equine Canada Media Award, which will be presented during the gala dinner.
