Leading Canadian Sire by Money Won
Entering his 26th year, Bold Executive squeaked out his fourth consecutive title as Canada’s leading stallion by progeny earnings, edging newcomer Milwaukee Brew by less than $40,000.
Statistics were tabulated from January 1 through Dec. 31, 2009 by The Jockey Club Information Systems. The son of Bold Ruckus – Arctic Vixen, by Victoria Park had 72 winners from 132 starters and his progeny collected over $3.9 million in earnings (in North America).
His four stakes winners in 2009 included Windhaven’s Sans Sousi (out of a Dance Brightly mare), who won her first stakes race of her career in May in the Lady Angela Stakes at Woodbine; the grey four-year-old Sand Cove (from a Mythical Ruler mare), owned by Ralph Johnson and Roger Attfield, who won the Elgin Stakes in September and the two-year-old Legal Review (out of a Carson City mare) who won the Bull Page Stakes for Woodford Racing LLC.
Standing at Gardiner Farms for his entire stud career, Bold Executive has a fee of $15,000 for 2010.
MILWAUKEE BREW
Leading Canadian Sire by Two-Year-Old Winners
Milwaukee Brew, a 13-year-old son of Wild Again – Ask Anita, Wolf Power, was owned and raced by Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs and was recently moved from Stronach’s Florida
division, where he stood his first four springs at stud, to Gardiner Farms in Caledon East for the 2010 season.
In total, Milwaukee Brew had five stakes winners, 82 winners from 143 runners and the earners of over $3.87 million.
Certainly Milwaukee Brew’s top runner in 2009 was Eugene George’s Milwaukee Appeal, who was the favourite to be named Canada’s champion three-year-old filly at the Jan. 29
Sovereign Awards. A stakes winner at two, the three-year-old daughter of the Open Forum mare Appealing Forum won the Star Shoot Stakes at Woodbine at six furlongs in the spring
before her Oaks score. The brawny bay then finished third to Sam-Son Farms’ colt Eye of the Leopard in the Queen’s Plate and second by a scant nose to the colt Gallant in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie. One of the filly’s top efforts was a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at historic Saratoga racecourse behind Careless Jewel.
Milwaukee Brew’s other stakes winners during the year were Peach Brew, an off-the-pace winner of the Grade III Arlington Oaks; Louisiana-bred grass stakes winner Milwaukee
Miracle; Ginger Brew, who won the Belle Mahone Stakes at Woodbine and the two-year old Florida stakes winning filly Gator Brew.
His 2010 stud fee is $12,500.
While he just stepped onto Canadian soil late in 2009, Milwaukee Brew’s stallion statistics vaulted him close to the top spots in many categories for top Canadian sires of the year.
Canadian horse people are very familiar with Milwaukee Brew’s offspring as he had had a litany of winners in Ontario in his first few years including two Woodbine Oaks winners –
Ginger Brew in ’08 and Milwaukee Appeal this season.
Now a resident at Gardiner Farms in Caledon East, Ontario, Milwaukee Brew led all Canadian sires by number of two-year-old winners with 11 from 32 such starters.
The stallion edged Where’s the Ring (also standing at Gardiner) who had 10 juvenile winners and Bold Executive who had nine.
MOBIL
Leading Canadian Freshman sire
As a three-year-old in 2003, Mobil spent most of his year chasing around his famous stablemate Wando, who went on to win the Canadian Triple Crown.
A sizy and feisty dark bay son of Langfuhr (Kinetigal by Naskra) Mobil may not have had the following as his celebrated mate but he was just as talented as his career progressed. From ages two through five, Mobil won 11 stakes races from distances of seven furlongs to 1 ¼ miles and banked $1.9 million.
In 2009, Mobil’s first crop of runners immediately made themselves known on the Ontario circuit. The Gus Schickedanz owned and bred stallion had two stakes winning juveniles one week apart near the end of the Woodbine meeting. In total, Mobil sired four winners from 29 starters and the earners of over $551,000, well in front of Mr. Jester (Silver Deputy), who had earners of almost $100,000 from just nine runners.
Leading Mobil’s runners was Mobthewarrior (out of a Woodman mare),winner of the Frost King Stakes at Woodbine at seven furlongs and earner of over $174,000.
His two-year-old filly Attitude Included, from a Black Tie Affair (Ire) mare, won the South Ocean Stakes, also at Woodbine, at 1 1/16 miles.

In his second year standing at Bar None Ranches in Dewinton, Alberta, champion Gilded Time continues to prove he is one of the most solid and reliable stallions standing anywhere on the continent.

A son of Timeless Moment, Gilded Time began his stud career in ’94 at Vinery in Kentucky and was also a shuttle stallion to Australia. He was purchased by Bar None in the
fall of ’07 and will be represented by a full crop of yearlings for this season.
Four-year-old Gayego (out of the Lost Code mare Devils Lake), winner of the Arkansas Derby (Grade II) as a three-year-old, won the Ancient Title Stakes (Grade I) at Santa Anita on Oct. 11 before finishing a close fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (Grade I) at the same track in November. He scored his biggest career victory in Canada and now Alphabet Soup will continue his stud career not far from Woodbine racetrack where he won the 1996 Breeders’ Cup Classic defeating the mighty Cigar.
