CBC to Air Pilot on Ontario Quarter Horse Racing

The Ontario Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Program (QHRIDP) is funding the production of a four-episode television pilot, The Full Quarter, to capture the imagination of a potential 3.5 million CTV viewers in the GTA and Golden Horseshoe regions of Ontario. Four episodes of The Full Quarter will air on CTV on Saturday mornings at 11:30 a.m. beginning August 14th.  The program will showcase Quarter Horse racing in Ontario, with additional feature highlights focusing on Quarter Horse athletes in rodeo, barrel racing and other sports. Stampede Deaths

July 19, 2010

Six horses died at the Calgary Stampede, held July 9-18, 2010, causing yet another public outcry to shut down the event. Two horses died of heart attacks, three were euthanized because of injuries and the cause of death for one had yet to be determined pending a post-mortem exam. Four of the deaths were related to the chuckwagon races; one horse broke its back during the saddle bronc competition and another died during the team penning, seriously injuring its rider. Last year, three horses died; the worst year for the Stampede in terms of loss of horses was in 1986, when 12 horses died.
