Selena’s WEG Prep - Training Camp

February 8, 2010 | No Comments

Day 1 training camp dressage Today was fantastic. It’s always a treat to watch David O’Connor, our team coach, ride Colombo. We were in the dressage arena and I worked Colombo around the ring a little in walk trot, and canter while David watched. He asked me what my plans are for the Spring. I plan to compete in Rocking Horse Adv then Read more »

O’Hanlon Eventing

February 8, 2010 | No Comments

O’Hanlon Eventing, trooped off to a show at Rocking Horse last weekend.  Rocking Horse Winter 1.  Selena took Colombo for the OI, she wanted to have her ‘eye in’ for the Advanced at Rocking Horse later in February.  Colombo rocked all weekend.  He did a good dressage test, had one time penalty with a clear jump round in stadium and was clear cross country with Read more »

More to Blog About

Solo and two of his barn mates went to Rocking Horse Schooling Event on the weekend.  Solo was a star, he did two dressage tests and was 1st and 2nd with a 27 something and a 28 something.  FINALLY, first place after dressage.  It has been a long time coming.  No arguing, no spooking, no nonsense, just a businesslike dressage test.  I have felt for Read more »

I just got back from visiting Solo in Ocala.  Boy, he has a nice life.  As soon as it gets just a little bit too cold and the ground is too icy, he and his buddies head south.  This time he shipped really well.  If you remember, the first few long hauls he did made him a bit out of sorts for a few days Read more »

Sleepy Solo

December 7, 2009 | 2 Comments

I would appear to have gone to sleep, and really, that about sums it up as far as Solo is concerned.  Solo was getting prepped and ready for his night at the Royal Winter Fair when we got a letter from them asking us not to take two horses.  It was an option when Selena was originally invited to enter the competition but I guess Read more »

Solo at Morvan Park

October 22, 2009 | 4 Comments

Solo did go to Morvan Park and I have not been rushing to tell you all about it… sigh.  He has been improving his dressage in leaps and bounds.  Lessons here with me, lessons in PA with Bruce Davidson and lessons in VA with David O’Conner.  He should be improving after that little lot!  He warmed up for the dressage like an advanced horse.  Breathtakingly beautiful Read more »

Wrong Test

September 23, 2009 | No Comments

Well Solo went to Plantation Field and he was a REALLY good boy, however that did not stop him being eliminated…..sigh! All seemed well planned and organised, but the reality was a nightmare.  Dressage day dawned bright and clear and Selena took Solo for a little hack to settle him down before she warmed up.  All going well, she continued her warm up near Read more »

Season over?

August 19, 2009 | 3 Comments

Solo is supposedly finished competing for this year unless some dressage shows turn up.  He was amazing at Wit’s End in his second CCI* this year and moved up a place from his Bromont finish to take fourth.  Selena was thrilled with him.  He finished the whole week on his dressage score.  There were only four clear rounds in the stadium and we were SO Read more »

Solo is to die for.  I know he is a bad boy, I know he argues when he shouldn’t, I know he should not wave to the crowd when he is at a show… but… he is the most breathtakingly beautiful animal and he is SO clever and articulate about his wants and likes, and of course his dislikes… LOL! Selena, who has to do the Read more »

Well Behaved in Bromont

June 16, 2009 | 1 Comment

Solo was SO well behaved at his first FEI event that he was unrecognisable.  We arrived on the Wednesday around mid day.  Selena tacked up Solo while I laid 8 bags of shavings into the stall provided - I mention this because when we moved Solo we had to buy more shavings and it is still galling my Scottish soul that I had to abandon Read more »

Next Stop, Bromont

June 10, 2009 | No Comments

Glen Oro and Ottawa are behind us and we leave for Bromont in about an hour. Glen Oro was good.  He was a bit spooked in the dressage ring (as usual) and didn’t do as good a dressage as the week before but no big arguments, just spooking and being silly every chance he gets….sigh.  He was 8th. Ottawa much the same.  He Read more »
